The firm
Techné AI
Techné AI is a Chicago-based independent AI compliance advisory firm. We work with boards, general counsel, chief compliance officers, and the brokers and carriers who serve them.
The firm was founded on the conviction that the AI governance market needs a category of practitioner that does not yet exist at scale: small, fast, methodology-led, and structurally independent from technology vendors and from the Big 4 audit firms. Most boards do not need a software platform; they need defensible governance documentation, a regulatory horizon they can plan against, and an advisor who can speak fluently to their general counsel, their auditor, and their D&O carrier in the same conversation.
That is the work we do.
How we work
Every engagement is grounded in published methodology. Our work draws on:
- NIST AI Risk Management Framework
- NIST AI 100-1 and its supplementary profiles
- ISO/IEC 42001
- The international standard for AI Management Systems
- SaferAI Frontier AI Risk Management Framework
- Anwar et al., 2025
- Proportionality literature on AI risk evaluation
- Mukobi et al., 2026
- AAL tiered assurance framework for AI auditing
- Casper et al., 2026
- Quantitative AI risk modeling
- Drawing on MITRE ATT&CK decomposition and structured expert elicitation
Every engagement produces documented workpapers, a written report, and an attributable methodology. We do not issue formal third-party assurance reports under AICPA or ISO/IEC 17021-1 — that work is reserved for licensed CPA firms and accredited certification bodies. When formal attestation is required, we coordinate referrals to credentialed providers.
Independence
On independence
Techné AI does not sell software, technology integration, model deployment services, or licensed insurance products. We do not accept commissions or contingent fees from technology vendors or insurance carriers. We do receive referral compensation from broker partners on a disclosed basis.
We do not perform a compliance review on an organization where we have performed an implementation engagement within the prior 24 months. This is a structural separation we maintain so that our review work can be relied on by audit committees, general counsel, and insurance underwriters.
Our full Independence and Disclosures policy is published at /independence.
